Akoya Pearls

Those who are not familiar with pearls assume that “a pearl is a pearl.” This is, of course an inaccurate assessment because there are a number of varieties of pearls out there and one of the most popular is the Akoya pearls. Akoya pearls are saltwater pearls that come from oysters that are indigenous to the waters of Japan. In many instances, these types of pearls are cultured pearls which refer to the process where foreign substances are injected into the oyster so as to engineer the type of pearl the oyster produces. These particular pearls have become incredible popular thanks to their unique look and appearance. These pearls can be shaped in a number of ways and this is why they are flexible in the sense they can be crafted into a variety of wonderful looking jewelry items. As such, they remain in tremendous demand worldwide. Of course, this is what makes these pearls who expensive but there are also a number of Akoya pearls that are quite affordable as well.
